Ah but Aoba-kun... i should return some thanks to you as well.
Our friendship, i feel, it may have some cracks and dips in it, but i am willing to work with you to repair the damage that may have been caused. I feel as if that is one way to make up for any wrong i have done.
Your loyalty to me here.. it has really surprised me. I suppose you haven't shied away from me.. friendships, they are not easy to come by for me. I'm not exactly sure why.

[ This is one of those moments when you see someone typing nonstop, and it's the same here. He watches message after message scroll down, line by line and about halfway through he stops staring blankly at his comm device and...

[ After he's done so -- and dried them by hand -- and made lunch for himself and Noiz with the leftovers, he finally checks the message in time to see the final line. It's... touching, actually. Aoba blushes when he reads it in full. ]

And you can't really compare me to 'others' - there's no comparison whatsoever. Even if we're soulmates, you have brothers here. That's a bond stronger than soulmates, isn't it?

[ He asks because Karamatsu always seems to have this funny way of describing something, he's learned to be at least cautious enough to ask. There can be so much room for misunderstanding. ]

This kind of thing is really an unkind heart-shaped arrow that pierces straight through him, hitting him right where he's tender and vulnerable. Aoba tries to harden his heart by telling himself this is just how Karamatsu is - over the top as always - but it's the kind of thing that he wants to hear. So it makes his vision swim as his eyes fill with emotional tears and he takes a moment to type out his reply. ]

Somewhere, though, Karamatsu doesn't completely believe Aoba since he, in reality, lacks faith in his own self. He feels like maybe he will do something to make Aoba not like him anymore. ]}

You are my forever friend! My everlasting sunshine when i am surrounded by gloomy clouds.

[ Aoba doesn't realize it until this moment, nearly 6 months into quarantine, when he finally feels emotion swelling uncontrollably inside him. His eyes well up with tears, blurring his vision. Tears spill out while he hugs himself, not having Ren here to comfort him and he feels his voice hitch and sob in the quiet of his room. Never... Never has someone said he was his forever friend. Koujaku promised and went away, friends came and went.

But no one ever touched his heart where it was this vulnerable in a platonic sense. It takes Aoba a while to reply, after he's washed his face and gathered himself together. ]

_{[ Meanwhile, Karamatsu has no idea that Aoba is crying and being dramatic on the other side. He feels a happiness in his heart but he's not nearly as emotionally compromised here since he says stuff like this on a regular basis. It means it, though. ]}

_{[ Karamatsu rubs slightly at his eyes. Okay, well. Maybe there was a bit of an emotional stirring here.. enough to get him to wipe his eyes at least. Sometimes he misses home— he misses his parents and his other brothers. He misses teasing Choromatsu and criticizing him on his fashion tastes— he misses playing pachinko with Jyushimatsu, even if that meant he had to deal with Jyushimatsu's loudness for a whole evening. He misses going fishing with Todomatsu even if it meant that Todomatsu was embarrassed by him. He misses helping Matsuyo with cooking— he misses encouraging Matsuzo when he needed it and cracking open a beer with is father. He misses seeing Totoko-chan perform and giving her praise— he misses harassing Iyami just for kicks when they came across each other on the streets.

But this.. this kind of genuine friendship was hard for him to come by back home. It made the feeling of missing home distant. It kept his chin high because he actually felt like he had something here even if it wasn't home.

It's honestly because of the relationships he has built here he isn't an absolute mess being separated from his family. ]}

[ They don't talk about it, but the feeling is mutual. Feeling displaced doesn't mean that they didn't miss what they used to have - friends, family, familiar places. Aoba misses the sounds of Granny in her kitchen and the scent of Koujaku's tobacco, and the rowdy kids from the store. He's lucky to have Noiz, or at least a version of him.

But having found a friend - even this embarrassing, over-the-top guy - makes quarantine feel a little more like home. But... speaking of embarrassing: ]
